My router is not connecting to the Internet!
First check if the bottom USB LED on the router (third light from the left) is OFF (disconnected state). If so, continue with the following steps. If not, then see the answers to Question 2.
Please verify that you are able to connect to your mobile operator using the modem in your computer!
Always insert the modem into the router before powering it on!
Log into the router website.
Check that your router has identified the modem (Check the USB modem under Home upon logging into the router). If not, check if your modem is supported: www.dovado.com/modems
Check the signal strength in the MODEM->MODEM Status page.
Verify that a correct Access Point Name (APN) has been inserted in the MODEM->MODEM SETTINGS page (this does not apply for CDMA-EVDO and iBurst). If your APN also requires a Username and Password, please insert it in the MODEM->PPP page. Please check your mobile operator manual for APN or see a publicly available list for reference. We also keep more updated lists for Sweden, Norway, Ireland, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
If using a PIN code on your SIM modem, insert it in MODEM->MODEM Settings page.
The MODEM (bottom USB) LED on the front of the router is lit, yet I can't surf! How come?
Test to see if you can do the following (in listed order):
1) Ping the router's internal IP address.
In Windows, click on Start followed by Run and type in cmd.
Once the black command prompt is open, type in ping 192.168.0.1 followed by Enter and see if 4 pings are replied positively.
If positive, then try the next step.
If negative, please try with another computer if possible. Also check your IP settings and switch to DHCP (dynamic IP) settings on your computer's network interface.
2) Ping an external IP address.
Try to ping www.yahoo.com and note if 4 pings are replied positively.

My internet keeps dropping, and the only thing I can do is repower the router to get back online. Any solution?
Review the Optimization Guides further up that are relevant for your Internet connection (3G, CDMA-EVDO and iBurst). These may be very helpful in improving your average Internet uptime.
Note: We do our best to make sure that the Internet uptime is at its maximum, however, when a USB modem's internal chipset causes itself to "crash" during operation, then all of its interfaces with the router will disconnect, and the router will lose its ability to reinitialize the USB modem.
The router will not be able to remedy the issue until a repowering of the router has taken place. Unfortunately, a soft restart won't repower the USB modem that has suspended in operation. Modem "crashes" such as these may seem frequent over a longer period of time when used in a router, but quite infrequent when used for short periods directly in a computer.
Our recommendation would be to upgrade the USB modem as we have noted improved reliability in many modems following an upgrade.
I'm having trouble accessing certain sites or even logging onto MSN Messenger. What should I do?
Access your router login.
Go to SYSTEM->NETWORK SETTINGS.
Deselect the Let router select safe settings.
Select the appropriate preset from the drop-down menu (3G General, ICE.net, etc).
Save Network Settings and then Restart the router.
My downlink speed isn't as good with the UMR as it is when I use the USB modem directly in my PC. What can I do about that?
Check that you're using the EXACT same APN in the router as you are in the USB PC dialer software. Most of the times, this is the very reason.
Check that you're using the USB modem in the exact same angle and position when conducting speeds tests with/without a router involved.
Verify with the help of an additional computer or additional interface (LAN cable instead of WLAN).

This requires version 3.0 (at minimum) of the DOVADO router firmware along with Windows XP environment.
Right-click your Windows desktop and go to Properties.
Click on the Desktop tab.
Click on Customize Desktop (at bottom).
Click on the Web tab.
Click on New.
Paste in this URL http://192.168.0.1/cgi-bin/statusbar.cgi?getall+/content/statusbar.html and push OK.
Push OK until you've closed the Desktop Properties.
My 3G/HSPA internet connection keeps dropping and I usually solve it by repowering the router. What can I do?
I forgot my router's password and can't log in again.
Tough luck! Nothing to do now but apply a master reset, which will wipe out all your settings. To do this, make sure your router is running and fully booted. Then hold down the RESET button at the back of the router for 8 seconds until the PWR (power) lamp begins to flicker on the front of the router. At this point, you can release the RESET button and wait approximately 30 seconds before logging in again. Make sure to write down your password next time! It is also advised that once you have made your ideal configuration, that you save it to your computer in case of future manual resets of the router. To do this, you go to UPGRADE->CONFIGURATIONS page and do a backup.

How do I setup my router so that I can host a public server for people to reach from outside?
Step 1:
Make sure your router is receiving a public IP address. The way to make sure whether it has one, is by comparing the IP address displayed on the MODEM->MODEM SETTINGS page (of the router) with that of the IP address displayed on http://www.whatismyip.com. If the two match, then your router has a public IP address. If not, then you have a private IP address. This is usually resolved by contacting the operator and asking for the proper 3G APN (Access Point Name) you should use in your router.
Under Static Address Assignments, select which method the server should be identified with ("MAC address" of the Ethernet card/WiFi; or the "hostname" of the computer). (see instructions on how to discover hostname or MAC address).
Fill in the "Host Identifier" field based on your selection.
Enter the desired internal address (normally anything between 2 and 254).
Under Port Forwarding to Lan, enter the public Port(s) (either as single entry or as a range) which others are to access your router through in order to reach your hosted service (typically, it's the same as the destination port on the internal network).
Select which protocol you wish to use, be it TCP, UDP or Both.
Enter the destination IP address (as per your STATIC ADDRESS ASSIGNMENT entry in the LAN->DHCP page).
Enter the Destination Port on the private side of your network which is used by the application/service you are hosting.
I have enabled the SMS functionality, however, I cannot send/receive SMS's. What should I do?
First, make sure that the SMS functionality is supported by both the USB modem on our list, and that the SIM card is activated by your operator for SMS traffic. The simplest way to know is to try the USB modem directly in the PC, and see if messages can be sent/received. Following that, check in USB modem's connection manager in your computer to see which SMS Service Center (also known as SMS-C) it is using. Having identified the SMS-C, place that number into the SMS Service Center field in your router, located under SMS->Settings.
I have followed your recommendation on getting SMS to work, but it still won't work. Now what?
Try upgrading the firmware on your USB modem. We have discovered that many times a simple upgrade of the USB modem firmware will remedy this issue.
How can I send an SMS to a short 5-digit (or so) number?
In the recipient field, place a "+" before the number, such as +71456
