Dovado continuously adds support for a growing range of USB modems for mobile broadband; everything from 4G/LTE down to 3G/2G. Use the following lists to identify whether or not your USB modem is supported, along with which features are available.

BONUS FEATURES - limited to only certain modems. See Tables below for further details.

SMS: Some modems allow us to make use of the SMS capabilities within the modem. Dovado routers can put SMS to great use as an alternative way of communicating with the router in case the Internet drops. You can also receive notifications in the event of any hiccups or excessive traffic consumption. For further information, visit the relevant pages in our Features section.

BRIDGE MODE: This capability allows you to convert your Dovado router into a USB modem->Ethernet converter. It disables the NAT routing and acts as a bridge. This is handy for installations that already contain a router and only require a mobile broadband connection to the Internet without throwing out the existing router/firewall. For further information, visit the relevant pages in our Features section.

4G/LTE FREQUENCY BANDLOCKING: In the world of 4G/LTE, most operators already have multiple radio frequency groups available for you to use. The higher the frequency, the lower the cell coverage, but higher the speed. Then there are lower frequency bands which bring great coverage, yet lower speed. A USB modem holds no regard to speed and will only connect to the frequency, signal level and priority it is most comfortable with. As handovers between two different frequency groups might cause a disconnect, it is now possible to lock onto a specific frequency group. This also plays well for installations that use an external roof-mounted antenna which are directed to a cell tower. Highest possible uptime with highest possible speed. Bandlocking is also recommended as a solution to minimize radio interference with devices that operate on neighboring bands. Terrestrial Digital Video Broadcasts in Europe are available on the 800MHz band, and 4G is close by. As for the higher bands, 4G operating on 2600MHz band can impact/be impacted by household appliances that are in transmission, such as microwave ovens, cordless DECT phones, Bluetooth, WiFi, TV-repeaters, etc.

Dovado is the world leading router brand in terms of 4G/LTE USB modem support. We are constantly adding support for the latest modems that enter the market. Our customers won’t settle for slow speeds, which is why we work intensively on providing the highest possible speed along with an attractive set of complimentary features. Currently, LTE peaks out at speeds of up to 150Mbps on the downlink and 50Mbps on the uplink. Most networks and modems alike support 100Mbps on the downlink and 50Mbps on the uplink.

Since 2005, Dovado has been supporting the 3G/UMTS technology roadmap, which began with downlink speeds of only 384kbps, and worked its way up to 42Mbps in only a few years time. 3G is the most widely available mobile broadband technology today, and many USB modem models contain support for global frequencies, allowing travelers to roam with their data plan. The 3G/UMTS roadmap is an ongoing success saga as the technology improves speed throughput and coverage.

Mobile Hotspots

Mobile Hotspots

As an alternative to USB dongle modems, Dovado routers also support mobile broadband connectivity via Mobile Hotspots. Come home with your 4G/LTE Mobile Hotspot and plug in via USB cable into a Dovado router and experience a wider range of WiFi coverage, support for up to 32 WiFi clients (as opposed to 5-10) and make use of the Ethernet ports for your wired computers! As an added bonus, the Dovado router will even feed power to your Mobile Hotspot during operation, making sure the battery’s always charged ahead of your next outing. With this combination, you can enjoy much higher 4G speeds throughout your home! Place the Mobile Hotspot where the mobile signal is the strongest, and the Dovado router will work its magic.

Note: As Mobile Hotspots contain batteries, they are not optimal for critical applications that require unattended uptime. For that, we advise you to use a USB modem instead so that the Dovado router can re-power it (via SmartUSB) in event of failure.
