NOTE: Requires at minimum version 4.0 firmware!
(or rather, its host!)
Now you can combine your DOVADO UMR with a standard USB-based GPS receiver (most use the same PL-2303 driver!) and you've got yourself a flexible, low-cost and advanced GPS tracking solution!
List of verified USB GPS dongles
There are two main methods of using positioning in the DOVADO UMR:
Summary: This is useful if the DOVADO UMR is in a mobile scenario where its host vehicle can be tracked from a remote location. Summary: Handy if for instance you have a lot of DOVADO UMR's with fixed locations and want to keep note of their position. Further (coming) applications that depend on geography will gain benefit from this feature.
SMS Remote Control
NOTE!: Make sure that your DOVADO UMR is configured for SMS Remote Control. Send the STATUS command by SMS to your DOVADO UMR, and you shall receive a reply that looks like this:
Web access
If using GPS, these figures will be updated once a minute.
If you are running a Dynamic DNS service/static IP address on your DOVADO UMR, you can access it from a remote location, and find its current location via the POSITION->MAP page. The IP address of the UMR can also be retrieved by the "STATUS" SMS command.
FTP logging
The log files contain information in $GPRMC format, which looks like this: $GPRMC,181209.000,A,5917.0320,N,01759.6636,E,35.65,316.55,160709,,*3C To understand this better, please read here.
Post-processing logged data A very handy tool we came across for allowing you to import the log file data into a program such as Google EarthTM is the KML Generator, developed my Jacob Madsen. It allows you to import the log data, process it for preview purposes (shows lots of information), and output a KML file for use with Google EarthTM as shown below.
