According to telecom industry sources, it is estimated that 90% of the 200m mobile broadband users worldwide own a USB modem. The DOVADO USB Mobile Broadband Router (UMR) allows users to insert their 3G/HSPA, CDMA or iBurstTM mobile broadband USB modem and share out their Internet connection with ease via LAN and/or WiFi, providing access to all their computers and wireless-enabled devices throughout the home or office. Not only is the DOVADO UMR a price-competitive product that fulfills the gap between a USB modem and a local area network, but is simple to configure and reliable in performance. Offering a residential or SOHO broadband connection without wires, the UMR provides a round-the-clock connection, as one would experience with fixed broadband.
As part of the Communicasia 2009 exhibition, DOVADO will for the first time be demonstrating two new unique feature additions never shown before, these being:
GPS (Global Positioning System)
DOVADO has taken the initiative to develop support for this feature in order to enter yet another category of solutions, this being geographic tracking. With the assistance of a standard retail USB-based GPS dongle, the DOVADO UMR is able to collect geographic position data on short timely intervals and allow the user to spot its position on an online map. Such a solution comes at a very small cost, thus targeting a broader range of scenarios where it can be utilized. Delivery services that transport precious cargo, taxi services offering onboard WiFi access, or even boats way out at sea can now be located thanks to this feature. With the growing availability of low-cost pre-paid mobile broadband, such a feature can be applied in many different everyday scenarios. As one of the bonus features for global positioning, the DOVADO UMR can also report back its location via SMS (whenever requested to do so).
Mobile Positioning
As an alternative to GPS, the inserted 3G/HSPA USB modem in the UMR is able to relay information it receives from the mobile network; such as the exact cell tower (base station) it is peered with. As many base stations have been publicly mapped with a specific geographic fix to them, the UMR is able to display an approximate location of the DOVADO UMR; though as this solution only works with one single base station at a time, it is not an accurate solution for spot-on positioning, but serves other purposes such as automatically updating the daily routine for controlling the lights at home when combined with the Home Automation feature. The DOVADO UMR will daily know which time to control the lights according to when the sun rises and sets, wherever you are in the world. With the introduction of this feature, DOVADO opens up the venue for further applications that could benefit from Mobile Positioning.
